Third Runner-up Jefferson HS, First Edition, Lafayette, IN Luers-Midwest Swing Choir Invitational, finals performance First Edition was formed in the fall of 1985. Jefferson HS had a strong choral program for years, but swing choir was begun by then new choir director J Kevin Butler. Kevin and asst principal Lynn Lupold (former director of Noblesville NHS Singers) showed videotapes of swingchoirs to their choirs to get them interested in the idea for the future. To their delight, the kids said "We think we can do this now." So they borrowed some dresses from another school, scrounged up enough tuxedos and put together an audition tape for that years Luers competition. Not only were they accepted into the competition, the very first public performance of the now legendary First Edition was prelims at Luers in February of 1986. This clip is from the finals competition that same day - merely their second public performance ever.
